More Information about Importing your New Car

Differences in Subaru cost between Canada and the United States can be very drastic. MSRP price varies from almost $4,000 to over $11,000 for some models right now. But why is that? Why are you paying so much more for the same Outback, Impreza, Legacy, Forester or Tribeca that you would be buying in the U.S.? There are several reasons for this.

1. First, the Canadian dollar has risen rapidly over the past couple of years, and prices for vehicles have not changed to reflect that yet. A few years ago when the Canadian dollar was approximately $.75 U.S., many United States citizens were traveling up to Canada to buy cars. The tables are now turned, and it's your chance to snag a deal on considerably lower prices in the United States.

3. Third, the actual cost of doing business is far higher in Canada than it is in the United States. Wages, utilities and taxes are higher in Canada, and this translates into higher business expense for dealerships. As a result, dealerships must charge a much higher price on vehicles in order to grow.

The answer? Very easy. The US/Canada Free Trade Agreement means that both governments support ease of trade between the two countries. This means that the hassle is kept to a minimum for you, the customer.
