Safety

The 2014 Outback Limited comes with the option of the new Subaru EyeSightTM System. This system can detect an immediately impending crash, using forward mounted sensors, and will apply the brakes at full-force to help reduce or avoid a crash. There are no crash mitigation brakes offered on the Toyota Venza. Standard on the Outback is all-wheel drive, which provides you with optimal traction and stability in all road conditions, especially ice and snow. All-wheel drive is only available at an additional cost on the Venza. The Outback also has an optional lane departure warning system. If the system senses that a driver is inattentively drifting from their lane, it will alert the driver. The Venza does not have a lane departure warning system.

Engine

The 2014 Outback comes standard with a boxer engine. The boxer engine features a flat cylinder configuration which creates a lower center of gravity for the Outback, and provides you with enhanced handling stability, all without having to compromise ground clearance. There is no boxer engine available for the Toyota Venza. The Outback 3.6R offers 256 horsepower from its 3.6L DOHC 6-cylinder engine, which is 75 more horsepower than the 181 horsepower from the Venza's 2.7L DOHC 4-cylinder engine. And the Outback 3.6R offers you 247 lbs.-ft. of torque which is 65 lbs.-ft. more than the Venza's 182 lbs.-ft.

Fuel Economy

The Outback 2.5i CVT gives you the great fuel economy of 24 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highway. With the Venza AWD 4-cylinder you'll only get 20 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway.

Suspension and Handling

With the 2014 Outback you'll have better off-road capability with its minimum ground clearance of 8.7 inches, the Venza's is only 8.1 inches. This means that the Outback can travel over much rougher terrain than the Venza. And with a turning circle of 36.8 feet, which is 3.9 feet tighter than the Venza's 40.7, the Outback offers greater maneuverability. The Outback also comes with engine speed sensitive variable-assist power steering which provides you with low-effort parking, a better feel for the road, and better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering. There is no variable-assist power steering available for the Venza.
